1. A solid oxide fuel cell formed by a method comprising:
providing a first electrode layer;
providing an electrolyte layer overlying the first electrode layer, the electrolyte layer comprising fused electrolyte powder,
the fused electrolyte powder being formed by melt processing and comprising fused stabilized zirconia;
providing a second electrode layer overlying the electrolyte layer; and
heat treating the first electrode layer, electrolyte layer and the second electrode layer to form a solid oxide fuel cell.
