1. A method for assessing the therapeutic potential of a chemotherapeutic agent in a combination with a chemosensitizer for treating a disease, said method comprising:
(a) contacting cells expressing glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) with a combination of at least one chemotherapeutic agent and at least one chemosensitizer; and
(b) measuring the activity of GCS in said cells, wherein a decrease in said GCS activity indicates therapeutic potential of said combination in treating said disease.
