1. A chewable dietary fiber tablet or wafer consisting essentially of a water-soluble, non-gelling inulin having a degree of polymerization of between 2 to 20, wherein the inulin is present in an amount of at least about 40% by weight of the tablet or wafer, and wherein the inulin, when combined with water to form a 10% by weight solution, has a viscosity at 25° C. of less than 100 centipoise.
