1. A vehicle deceleration control device judging automatic deceleration to be necessary based on a relative distance and a relative speed between its own vehicle and an object in front of the vehicle; calculating a target deceleration of the own vehicle based on the relative distance and the relative speed when the automatic deceleration is necessary; and decelerating the own vehicle automatically by controlling braking force to be applied on the own vehicle automatically, based on the target deceleration; said device comprising a speed detector for detecting a vehicle speed of the own vehicle and a maximum allowable deceleration setting portion setting up a maximum allowable deceleration based on the vehicle speed of the own vehicle when a predetermined condition is satisfied; and said device decelerating the own vehicle automatically by controlling braking force to be applied on the own vehicle automatically, based on the maximum allowable deceleration when a magnitude of the target deceleration is larger than a magnitude of the maximum allowable deceleration.
