1. A decoding method, comprising:
detecting a synchronization code at a plurality of synchronization code inserting positions provided at prescribed periodic
interval in an input code string, the input code string including a multiplexed code string obtained by multiplexing a plurality
of variable-length compressed codes generated by compression coding of an image signal, and a stuffing bit of which is a first
bit has a first value and when there is a bit subsequent to the first bit, the subsequent bit has a second value different
from the first value;
demultiplexing the multiplexed code string in the input code string based on a position of the detected synchronization code
to generate the variable-length compressed codes; and
decoding the generated variable-length compressed codes to output a reproduced image signal.
