1. An implantable stimulation lead for stimulation of neural tissue of a patient, comprising:
a paddle structure adapted to be implanted adjacent to neural tissue for electrical stimulation, the paddle structure comprising:
a flexible polymer body,
electrodes arranged in a multi-dimensional pattern and positioned along a contact side of the flexible polymer body, and
a plurality of sets of microtubes on the flexible polymer body, each of the microtubes having an inner lumen; and
a lead body comprising a first conductor layer and a second conductor layer within an outer sheath of the lead body, the first conductor layer including a first plurality of conductor wires and a first backing layer that holds the first plurality of conductor wires side-by-side, the second conductor layer including a second plurality of conductor wires and a second backing layer that holds the second plurality of conductor wires side-by-side;
wherein the flexible polymer body of the paddle structure is configured to flex transversely about its longitudinal axis, and the plurality of sets of microtubes are generally parallel to the longitudinal axis;
wherein the first and second conductor layers project from a distal end of the lead body in a splayed configuration and the conductor wires of the first and second conductor layers are routed through the inner lumens of the microtubes to the electrodes for electrically coupling to the electrodes.
