a mounting bracket comprising a body having a front side, a rear side, a lateral side and an upper end;
a carrier comprising an upper end, a lower end and a housing, the housing comprising a first housing portion and a second housing portion which together define an interior space, and a receiver disposed near the lower end of the carrier and configured to receive a pivot bar of the moveable sash of the hung window assembly; and
a constant force curl spring comprising a curled portion within the interior space of the housing of the carrier and an uncurled end portion extending from the curled portion outside of the interior space of the housing of the carrier, wherein the uncurled end portion has a width and a thickness;
wherein the body of the mounting bracket comprises at least one opening passing through the body from the front side of the mounting bracket to the rear side of the mounting bracket, the at least one opening being configured to receive a fastener for attaching the mounting bracket to a wall of the jamb;
wherein the mounting bracket is symmetrical such that the mounting bracket is configured to be installed in either a left-hand jamb of the hung window assembly or a right-hand jamb of the hung window assembly;
wherein the lateral side of the mounting bracket comprises a ledge;
wherein the lateral side of the mounting bracket further comprises a slot comprising a first open end and a second open end, and wherein the slot provides a narrow passage that is at least partially bounded by a cantilevered surface extending over the passage;
wherein the ledge is spaced from the slot and the ledge is located nearer to the upper end of the mounting bracket than the slot;
wherein in an uninstalled, assembled configuration of the window balance, the uncurled end portion of the curl spring engages the mounting bracket at the ledge and at least a portion of the uncurled end portion of the curl spring is received in the slot, and wherein movement of the uncurled end portion of the curl spring relative to the mounting bracket in a direction perpendicular to the lateral side of the mounting bracket is substantially limited.
