1. A transoral ultrasound probe for imaging a temporomandibular joint, comprising:
a handle section having a longitudinal axis and a first end, the handle section being configured for connection to a power source;
an intraoral section that is configured to be received in a patient's mouth and having a cephalad angulation such that the intraoral section is positioned at an operative angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the handle section, the intraoral section being configured to emit and receive sound waves, wherein the operative angle of the intraoral section is an acute angle, the intraoral section having a second end opposite the first end of the handle section; and
a first side surface and a second side surface opposite the first side surface, each of the first and second side surfaces being continuous and substantially flat between the opposite first and second ends.
