1. An apparatus for providing a connection to a wide area network for voice calls, the apparatus comprising:
a network circuit configured to transmit voice call data packets;
a phone connection circuit configured to receive a voice call signal;
a processor circuit configured to generate voice call data packets based on a voice call signal received by the phone connection circuit; and
a power management circuit configured to issue a command to the processor circuit to transition the processor circuit to at least one of a power down mode or a low power mode if a supply voltage supplied from an external power source does not satisfy a supply voltage threshold,
wherein the power management circuit is powered by a battery when the supply voltage from the external power source does not satisfy the supply voltage threshold.
