1. A tapped winding stator for use in an electric motor, comprising:
a stator body;
a plurality of teeth that are adjacent in a circumferential direction;
a plurality of slots that are formed between the plurality of teeth, wherein the plurality of slots comprises a first pair of slots and a second pair of slots;
a plurality of coils mounted in each of the plurality of slots, wherein the plurality of coils are tapped between coils spanning the first pair of slots and spanning the second pair of slots in a configuration that allows the tapped winding stator to selectively bypass one or more of the plurality of coils in operation from a respective phase supply; and
a plurality of switches electrically coupled between the configuration and the respective phase supply to the electric motor, each of the plurality of switches having at least a first position and a second position.
