1. A position sensor for positioning a shaft of an electrical motor, the position sensor comprising:
a ferromagnetic core that defines a circular opening therethrough to receive a shaft, the ferromagnetic core having a plurality of teeth that include a first set of teeth and a second set of teeth, wherein each tooth of the first set of teeth is adjacent to a tooth of the second set of teeth, wherein the plurality of teeth extend radially inward relative to the circular opening;
a first set of electromagnetic coils, each electromagnetic coil of the first set of electromagnetic coils positioned around a respective tooth among the first set of teeth;
a second set of electromagnetic coils, each electromagnetic coil of the second set of electromagnetic coils positioned around a respective tooth among the second set of teeth; and
a control circuit coupled in electrical communication to the first set of electromagnetic coils and the second set of electromagnetic coils, the control circuit configured to receive position signals from the first set of electromagnetic coils and the second set of electromagnetic coils, the control circuit configured to control power supplied to the first set of electromagnetic coils to cause rotation of the shaft based on the received position signals.
