1. A medical diagnostic system comprising:
an intravascular guidewire configured to be positioned within a blood vessel of a patient, wherein the intravascular guidewire comprises a distal portion with an intravascular blood flow sensor configured to generate intravascular blood flow data and an intravascular pressure sensor configured to generate intravascular pressure data, wherein the intravascular blood flow data and the intravascular pressure data are time-division multiplexed; and
a patient interface module (PIM) configured for communication with a processing system and the intravascular guidewire,
wherein the patient interface module is distinct from the intravascular guidewire and the processing system,
wherein the patient interface module is communicatively interposed between the intravascular guidewire and the processing system,
wherein the patient interface module includes:
a signal separator configured to receive the time-division multiplexed intravascular blood flow data and intravascular pressure data directly from the intravascular guidewire, wherein the signal separator comprises a time-division de-multiplexer operable to separate the intravascular blood flow data and the intravascular pressure data;
an analog-to-digital converter operable to:
receive the intravascular blood flow data from the time-division de-multiplexer; and
perform an analog-to-digital conversion on the intravascular blood flow data to produce digital intravascular blood flow data, wherein the analog-to-digital conversion is performed in the PIM and not the intravascular guidewire or the processing system; and
an interface subunit operable to output the digital intravascular blood flow data to the processing system.
