1. An annuloplasty ring, comprising:
an inner core member surrounded by an outer covering, the core member being formed of a superelastic material and defining in plan view a curved relaxed open D-shape implant shape having a posterior portion and an anterior portion including end regions terminating in two free ends spaced across a gap, each end of the posterior portion is connected by a transition segment and a side to a respective end region of the anterior portion, the core member having a radial thickness t1 within the posterior portion and a smaller radial thickness t2 within the sides and the end regions, wherein a radial thickness of the transition segments between the sides and the posterior portion gradually transitions from the radial thickness t1 of the posterior portion to the smaller radial thickness t2 of the sides, wherein the core member has a saddle shape with the posterior portion and anterior portion rising upward from the sides, wherein the core member may be substantially straightened without exceeding a yield strain of the superelastic material.
