1. A system that improves security of an e-commerce transaction by utilizing Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), the system comprising:
a network interface that is communicatively coupled to an e-commerce system and a vendor website via a network;
one or more processors that are communicatively coupled to the network interface, wherein the one or more processors are collectively configured to:
cause, using the network interface, a request to perform the e-commerce transaction to be transmitted from the vendor website to the e-commerce system, wherein the request includes an email address of a registered user and transaction information;
receive, using the network interface, a first email from the e-commerce system via SMTP, wherein the first email is addressed to an email address of the registered user and includes an mailto link that is encoded with a token for the e-commerce transaction;
transmit, using the network interface, a second email to the e-commerce system via SMTP, wherein the second email confirms the e-commerce transaction and is generated in response to activation of the mailto link by the registered user and the second email includes the token; and
receive, using the network interface, a confirmation from the vendor website, wherein the confirmation indicates that the e-commerce transaction has been completed by the vendor website,
wherein the e-commerce transaction is completed by the vendor website in response to the vendor website receiving a notification from the e-commerce system that indicates that the e-commerce transaction was successfully processed by decoding and validating the token included in the second email and authenticating that the second email was received from the email address of the registered user.
