1. A method for making a fluorescent antibody stain for staining virus-size particles having a target epitope, the method comprising:
in an aqueous liquid medium at a pH of from pH 7 to pH 8, attaching, directly or indirectly, multiple ones of a fluorophore group comprising a fluorophore to antibody molecules targeted to bind with the target epitope at an average number in a range of from 3 to 8 ones of the fluorophore group per antibody molecule of the antibody molecules.

5. A fluorescent antibody stain for staining virus-size particles having a target epitope, the fluorescent antibody stain comprising:
antibody molecules targeted to bind, directly or indirectly, with the target epitope;
multiple ones of a fluorophore group attached to the antibody molecules, the fluorophore group comprising a fluorophore; and
an average of from 3 to 8 ones of the fluorophore group attached per antibody molecule of the antibody molecules.
