1. A blower unit for use as part of an integrated blower and humidification system used to provide heated humidified gases to a user, the blower unit comprising:
an outer casing that encloses and forms a part of the blower unit, the outer casing comprising an inlet vent and a patient outlet, wherein air from atmosphere can enter the outer casing through the inlet vent;
a humidifier compartment that receives a humidifier unit, the humidifier compartment comprising a heater base adapted for use with the humidifier unit, wherein the humidifier unit comprises a gases inlet and a gases outlet, wherein the humidifier compartment further includes a blower inlet port that provides a gases path between an interior portion of the outer casing and the gases inlet of the humidifier unit;
a fan unit contained within the outer casing that in use provides a pressurized gases stream along the gases path, the fan unit being located upstream of the humidifier compartment;
wherein the gases path within the interior portion of the outer casing is between the inlet vent and the blower inlet port,
wherein the fan unit is positioned below the humidifier compartment,
wherein the pressurized gases stream is ducted or directed from the inlet vent through the outer casing to the blower inlet port of the humidifier compartment, and
wherein the pressurized gases stream is ducted or directed from the fan unit outwards to the blower inlet port of the humidifier compartment.
